Have your say on our Transport Master Plan

What are the plans?

Rather than building a whole new network (like a full-city underground train, for example), it’s cheaper and greener for us to improve what already exists, take a look at where those routes might not join up with each other, and put new routes in place to fill in those gaps.

We plan on increasing the amount of buses and trains on existing routes, as well as creating new cross-city bus routes and two new overground railway lines.

People using the network will be able to buy tickets that work on all different forms of transport in the network - for example, a day ticket will allow you to travel on buses and trains.

Feb '23-May '24: more buses (in progress)

We’re trialling closing Bristol Bridge to traffic, which will allow us to create bus-only routes through the city center.
We’ve also doubled the amount of Number 2 bus services already, and will be increasing services on other routes through the city centre.

May '24-Jan '26: adding new train stations and bus stops

Once the Bristol Bridge trial period is over we will build additional bus stops throughout the city and phase in the new bus routes proposed in our plans.

We will also begin construction on new train and metro stops.

Jan '26-Jan '29: construction of overground lines

We will build two new overground train lines that will connect Bristol Airport, Cribbs Causeway, Bath, Keynsham and Emerson’s Green, with brand new stops along each route.

This will connect places like Knowle, Hengrove, St George and Kingswood with the rest of the city.

This is an example activity for demonstration purposes only. This site is operated by Delib Ltd and submitted responses will be discarded. Feedback from the initial Transport Master Plan consultation showed that residents of Arlen Hill mostly require more bus routes, servicing different areas of Arlen Hill.
